Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra Leaked: A Bold New Design

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra Leaked Design

Samsung is gearing up for its next big Unpacked event, and the leaks are already flowing. Alongside expected reveals of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 phones, Samsung has been teasing the Galaxy Ring. Now, the spotlight is on the watches, specifically the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, which has been leaked ahead of its official launch. This new variant will be released alongside the standard Galaxy Watch 7 and the budget-friendly Watch 7 FE.

A Radical Design Shift

The leaked renders of the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, courtesy of trusted sources OnLeaks and Smartprix, show a significant departure from previous Galaxy Watch designs. The Watch 7 Ultra features a squarish dial, moving away from the traditional circular design of its predecessors. This new design, described as a “squircle” (a squarish circle), aims to create a distinct identity for the Watch 7 Ultra. This design is reminiscent of the Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch from over six years ago.

Comparison to Apple Watch Ultra

The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra’s design draws inspiration from the Apple Watch Ultra, featuring a raised platform on the side. However, Samsung adds its twist with three buttons instead of two. This includes a new round button positioned between two oblong ones, although its exact functionality remains unclear.

Display and Build

Despite the squarish shell, the Watch 7 Ultra maintains a circular display surrounded by a raised bezel with hour markings. This bezel is expected to rotate, potentially eliminating the need for a crown. The circular display measures 1.5 inches in diameter, and the dial is slightly smaller than the Apple Watch Ultra at 47mm (1.85 inches), compared to the 46mm Galaxy Watch 6.

Battery and Performance Enhancements

The larger design of the Watch 7 Ultra suggests it houses a bigger battery, rumored to be 578 mAh. Internally, the watch is expected to feature a new 3-nanometer Exynos W1000 chip, promising performance on par with the Apple Watch’s chip.

Strap Design and Color Options

The leaked renders indicate a strap design that seamlessly blends into the watch body, similar to the Apple Watch. Samsung, which updated the strap lock last year, might introduce further improvements exclusive to the Watch 7 Ultra. The renders reveal two strap color options: black and white, with the dial available in a gunmetal or titanium finish.

Advanced Sensor Setup

The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra is expected to include an advanced sensor setup, featuring standard PPG and blood oxygen sensors, along with a temperature sensor. There are rumors that the Watch 7 Ultra could be the first smartwatch to offer noninvasive blood sugar monitoring, pending FDA approval.

Software and AI Integration

On the software front, the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will run Samsung’s One UI for Watch based on Wear OS 5, recently previewed at Google I/O 2024. While there aren’t significant visual changes expected, Samsung might integrate AI features to enhance workout and sleep tracking.

Conclusion

As the launch date nears, more details about the Galaxy Watch 7 series, including the Watch 7 Ultra, will emerge. Stay tuned for updates as we approach Samsung’s next Unpacked event.
